Rebeca was a Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU) Intern in STAT-USA from January 2000 to May 2000. She came to STAT-USA as a senior from the University of Maryland. She had experience working in a non-profit organization directing and organizing tutoring sessions for 150 students. She was on the Dean's list, captain of the co-ed soccer team, and fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, and English.

Rebeca worked with microcomputers to perform word processing, spreadsheet analyses, telecommunications, and web-based application tools to operate Internet information services. Rebeca also coordinated the development of the secured ESA Intranet web site. She worked with PC technologies, including various hardware platforms and software packages. Rebeca participated in the development of informational literature. She was instrumental in posting automated electronic forms on the ESA Headquarters Intranet.

On May 2000, Rebeca graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelors of Science in International Business and Finance. Currently, she is working as an Accountant for the Affiliated Sante Group in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Internship - Spring 2000

Prior to coming to ESA Headquarters, Linel was a Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities Intern at the Library of Congress, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the U.S. Postal Service. In the Spring of 2000, she was Intern in the office of Economics Conditions. She came to us with experience working in a Consulting firm as an Economist and had extensive teaching and researching experience at the Graduate School of Economics, University of Puerto Rico. She has a very distinguished academic record and a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 in her graduate studies.

In June 2000, Linel competed and was selected as a Computer Specialist in the Information Technology Staff in STAT-USA. She is the ESA Headquarter's Intranet webmaster, and provides HTML programming and 508 compliance. She participated in the development of the bilingual TA Demonstration project web site. She has the primary responsibility of working on all CIO IT reports to the Department.

Phuong was an Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) Intern from June 2000 to August 2000. APAICS was formerly the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Institute, it was established in 1995 as the only national, non-partisan, pan-Asian American organization dedicated to increasing the participation of Asian Pacific Americans in public policy and the political process.

She was selected for this internship based on her academic and civic accomplishments. Phuong attended Congressional hearings, press conferences, and wrote summaries. Phuong also compiled a list of legislative sessions for fifty states. She assisted the STAT-USA, Marketing and Customer Support Staff with customer feedback on subscriptions renewals.

On May 2001, Phuong graduated from Northern Iowa State University with a Bachelors of Political Science and Public Administration. Currently, she is attending the University of Minnesota in the graduate Public Administration program and is expected to graduate in June 2003.

In the Summer 2000, Ileana Gabriel was a Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU) Intern in STAT-USA. She has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Puerto Rico. She has experience in developing web-based applications and creating web applications that include knowledge of HTML and Javascript. She has extensive experience in Access, Computer Repair programming in Visual Basic, Visual Studio C++, Java, Access and SQL Server, Assembler, COBOL, Pascal, strong digital production abilities with Photoshop and Illustrator proficiency.

In August 2000, she competed and was selected as a Computer Specialist in the Information Technology Staff in STAT-USA. She provides client user support for the Technology Administration (TA) and ESA Headquarters. In June 2001, she became the webmaster, designed, and developed the bilingual ESA Headquarters web site that is 508 compliant. Ileana also participated in the development and design of the TA Demonstration bilingual web site. She is one of CIO's HTML programmers and Intern mentors.

Victor was a Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU) Intern from Spring to Summer 2001. Victor was working toward a computer science degree and has earned an Associate in Science degree from Laredo Community College, Laredo, Texas. He came to us with a very impressive scholastic record and provided client server support for ESA and TA and assisted with IT special projects.

Victor during his internship used operating systems such as Windows NT, Windows 98 and Windows 95. He also worked with PC technologies, including various hardware platforms and software packages. Victor provided assistance with client user support. He worked with Wireless Application Protocols (WAP) technology and provided WAP training to users. He installed the scanner, computer, modem, compact disc readable and internal tape drive for the net shelter in the server farm. This workstation puts all this technology in one location for the IT staff.

Esther came to STAT-USA from New York City as a Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU) Intern. She is proficient in C++, Java Script, Java, HTML, Excel, MS Word, and MS Access. She is also knowledgeable of Structured Query Language and LINUX operating systems. She has experience as a college assistant and math tutor. Esther belongs to two Honor Societies and designed the Phi Eta Sigma web site and is on the Dean's List. She is also fluent in both English and Spanish.

During her internship, she worked with web design, and HTML programming projects. She was instrumental in developing the ESA Headquarters Intern web site. Esther participated in client server support, reconfiguring new computers, and worked with Wireless Applications Protocols (WAP), and provided WAP training to users. Esther was also working on an Access database of all Minority Serving Institutions. This MSI database track the STAT-USA site licenses to the MSIs.

On December 2001, She graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a Bachelor of Computer Information Systems. Currently, she works for the Federal Aviation Administration as a Computer Scientist.

In the summer of 2001, Ernest was as an American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) Intern from New Mexico. Ernest went to the Anderson School of Management and is an active member of the American Indian Business Association and University of New Mexico Rodeo Association. Upon graduation he would like to work on consulting services targeted on prospective Native entrepreneurs by conducting feasibility studies, preparing business plans, providing options for financing, developing, and evaluating Native businesses. He is proficient in various software packages such as Microsoft Office 2000, Access, Excel, Power Point, Adobe Photoshop, and various other software packages. Ernest has been an Intern for the Navajo Tribe - Department of Economic Development and was responsible for accounting, financial, and various administrative functions. He was an excellent student and participates in various extracurricular activities throughout the academic year.

On August 2002, he graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Marketing.

Katherine came to ESA from Miami Shores, Florida as a Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities Intern. On December 2002, she graduated with a Master of Science in Electronic Commerce and a Master in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. Katherine has worked for General Motors' Latin America, Africa and Middle East Headquarters, Vistana Resort, and EPCOT, Walt Disney World. She has experience in managing an office's budget and expenses, coordinating distance learning programs, organizing regional meetings and events, and maintaining and posting information on web sites. Katherine interned with the Secretariat of Economic Development, Monterrey, Mexico and researched major U.S. & Mexico border issues. She interned at the U.S. Department of Labor, Public Affairs and Information Office, and participated in various projects and reports. Katherine also interned at the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration, and researched program and background information and relevant government agencies to be used in strategic business reports on Mexico, Argentina, and Chile. She also created and maintained databases of government and private events. Katherine is fluent in written and spoken Spanish and is proficient in various word processing software packages, Excel, Power point, FrontPage, Access, Adobe Pagemaker, Microsoft Outlook, and Internet applications.

Diana came to the Economics and Statistics Administration from New York as a Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Intern from June to August 2002. She served as the Information Technology (IT) intern for the Office of the Chief Information Officer. Diana is a junior at Penn State University majoring in Information Sciences and Technology and has taken various courses on organization of data networking and telecommunications. She has experience creating, developing and maintaining web sites. Diana is proficient in C++, Java, Structured Query Language (SQL), MS Office, Java Script, HTML, and discrete mathematics and fluent in Spanish and English.

Diana maintains a high grade point average and is an active member of many student organizations and holds office for the following student organizations: Sigma Lambda Gamma, Notational Sorority Inc., webmaster for the National Hispanic Business Association, Latino Caucus, and the Multicultural Greek Council. She is also involved in many community service activities including a local church Food Bank, Second Mile Program, a YMCA volunteer, and the Penn State Thon for Cancer.
