Program Funding

Document Actions

STATEMAP and EDMAP funds are distributed through annual competitive grants programs that require matching funds from the applying states or universities. FEDMAP funds also are distributed through a competitive process. Although the National Geologic Mapping Act authorizes up to $64 million for the Program each year, Congress has enacted between $20 and $30 million. The distribution of these funds among the three components is determined by a formula. Figure 1 shows a comparison between the authorized and enacted budget for the Program since 1998. Figure 2 shows the amount of funding for each component from 1993 to 2005.
