On June 21, 2005, the Mine Safety and Health Administration hosted Contractor Summit I, "Contractor Safety and Health Issues and Concerns in the Mining Industry", with particular emphasis on addressing everyday issues facing today's contractors in the coal mining industry. Contract work in coal mining is a multi-faceted portion of the industry, encompassing specialty work such as logging, trucking, training, and gas harvesting. Speakers from the industry voiced concerns ranging from regulations, contractor accidents and fatalities, training, substance abuse to workers' compensation. This site contains the actual slide presentations presented by each speaker at the summit. The accompanying files contain the Executive Summary and summary notes of each presentation.
