Volunteers Wanted!

The U.S. Geological Survey Web-based Data Collection Program Needs Volunteers

Registration and data collection

The National Map Corps' Web-based data collection procedure presents an opportunity for private citizens to contribute specific geographic knowledge to the USGS's mapping program. By completing a simple registration procedure, volunteers can immediately collect data and provide the location and name of important map-worthy features in their community.

Give it a try - put your town on the map by identifying your high school, hospital, and airport. The data you provide will immediately appear on the volunteer viewer and eventually be incorporated in The National Map.

Documentation
Data collection

The National Map Corps consists of private citizens who devote some of their time to provide cartographic information to the U.S. Geological Survey. Volunteers participate in projects within mutually determined work areas. The only requirements to participate are having access to the Internet and a current familiarity with the area that you are mapping.
