Technical Information Center and Library National Mine Health and Safety Academy Accident Investigation File Archive The Accident Investigation File Archives consists of the following: Accident Investigation Final Reports (Fatal and Nonfatal) Paper copies of fatal and nonfatal mine accident reports from coal and metal/nonmetal operations throughout the United States. This material ranges in date from 1840 to the present. Early holdings (1840 to 1976) are incomplete. In general, the material in this collection is limited to the official final report of the investigation. Coal Fatality Reports Paper copies of reports of fatal accidents that occurred in underground and surface coal mines in the United States from 1840 to the present. Early holdings (1840 -1976) are incomplete. The material in this collection, for the most part, is the official report of the accident. Metal/Nonmetal Fatality Reports Paper copies of reports of fatal accidents that occurred in underground and surface metal/nonmetal mines in the United States from 1879 to the present. Early holdings (1879 to 1976) are incomplete. The material in this collection, for the most part, is the official report of the accident. Coal Nonfatal and Noninjury Final Reports Paper copies of reports of nonfatal and noninjury accidents that occurred in underground and surface coal mines in the United States from 1920 to the present. Holdings are incomplete. Metal/Nonmetal Nonfatal and Noninjury Final Reports Paper copies of reports of nonfatal and noninjury accidents that occurred in underground and surface metal/nonmetal mines in the United States from 1929 to the present. Holdings are incomplete. District Investigation Files Investigation files from Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Districts. The material in this collection dates from 1975 to 1996. Holdings include all materials related to investigations of fatal and nonfatal accidents in underground and surface coal and metal/nonmetal mines throughout the United States. The collection is maintained under a special agreement with the National Archives. Legal ID Files A collection of materials generated by MSHA's Office of Assessments. Holdings include original materials filed from 1970 to 2000 by companies regarding ownership of mining operations. There is no material related to accidents in this collection. |
