Certification Service
Customers of the USGS may request product certification services from its aerial archives. The USGS will certify that the archive source, is an official record of the government in legal custody of the USGS, and that the output is an authentic reproduction of the archived source. Certification is most typically requested for investigative and legal purposes.
Upon request for a certified product, the film source is retrieved from the historical film archives and scanned to the customer specification for micron spot size. The scanned image is output to media in a TIFF format. To designate authenticity as a certified USGS product, an official signed document is included with the media. This document signifies that USGS has produced the product, it will list the:
Enlargements are not offered as a certified product. Both the scanned output file (TIFF) on media and certified letter are delivered to the customer.
The total price for certification will include: $30.00 for scanning the archive film source, a $10.00 certification administration fee, and $5.00 per order for shipping and handling.
The total price for Priority certification will include: $45.00 for scanning the image and a $10.00 certification fee per image.
An aerial product can only be certified prior to the order being shipped.
For orders placed using USGS on-line (EarthExplorer or PhotoFinder) systems:
Customers who desire a certified aerial product may submit their order on-line.
Customers requesting priority service must notify Customer Service.
For orders placed off-line (phone, fax, email or mail):
Customers who desire a Priority certified aerial product must notify Customer Services at the time the order is placed.
