From the Field: Sharing Experience and Findings from AHRQ-funded Projects

Highlights

New Resources for Health IT Implementers

The AHRQ National Resource Center for Health IT has released several new resources to address open challenges facing the health IT community.

The first resource, Liability Coverage for Regional Health Information Organizations (PDF, 259 Kb), provides lessons from AHRQ-funded projects on how to navigate the immature and complicated landscape of liability within a health information exchange environment.

A second resource, the Health Information Technology Evaluation Toolkit (PDF, 401 Kb), is a workbook to help health care organization develop a plan to measure and report on the impact of health IT systems.

A third resource, the AHRQ-Funded Project Resources Archive, features more than 50 resources created by AHRQ grants and contracts. Examples include vendor selection materials, project management forms, clinical content committee information guides, and a sample medication reconciliation checklist for patients to complete while they wait to see their primary care doctor.

AHRQ White Papers on Clinical Decision Support

To advance the understanding of incorporating clinical decision support (CDS) into ambulatory health care delivery, the AHRQ sponsored a series of white papers. The first two papers have been released:

Clinical Decision Support Systems: State of the Art provides a concise, but comprehensive overview of CDS and its current state, including evidence of its potential impact and its use in clinical settings today.
Clinical Practice Improvement and Redesign: How Change in Workflow Can Be Supported by CDS explores the use of electronic CDS to improve clinical workflow in ambulatory and hospital-based settings through user-centered design approaches.
