U.S. and T&T Team up and Provide Free Medical Treatment in MaturaOn July 30, the visiting U.S. military medical team set up a mobile clinic in the Matura Government Primary School, and on the first day treated hundreds of local residents seeking free general medical, dental and optometry exams and treatment. The U.S. team partnered with a diverse array of local civic organizations as well as TT and local government authorities. The mission in Matura follows several days in Toco, and the mobile clinic will also serve the communities of Valencia and San Fernando before departing in late August.
(more)U.S. Embassy Honors Finalist for 2009 International Women of Courage AwardOn July 28, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Len Kusnitz today honored Diana Mahabir-Wyatt for achieving a place as one of the top finalists in the Western Hemisphere for the U.S. Department of State’s 2009 International Women of Courage Award in recognition of her advocacy work on behalf of women and children in Trinidad and Tobago. The ceremony was held at the U.S Embassy to honor Mrs. Mahabir-Wyatt and to recognize and celebrate her work for women’s equality and children’s rights in the Caribbean.
(more) U.S. Embassy Recognizes Trinbagonian International Visitors GranteesOn July 24, U.S. Embassy Charge Len Kusnitz and PA Staff hosted a luncheon send-off for three participants of this year’s International Visitor Leadership Program. The departing participants, Margaret Sampson-Brown, Leston Davis and Raphael Lall set off for their respective three-week programs of professional exchange in the areas of U.S. Economic Policy and Law Enforcement. They were joined by recently-returned IVLP alumni, Vidjaya Ramkhalawan, Charles Sabga and Avryl Mohammed, who attended exchange programs in the areas of Environment, Energy and Human Rights policy.

Student Group from Mayaro visits Embassy Information Resource Center
On July 21, A student group visited the U.S. Embassy from Mayaro District (Southeastern Trinidad) to hear a presentation on U.S. history and government by outgoing Political Counselor, John Cushing. The students also learned about application criteria and procedures for U.S. colleges and universities. A lively question and answer session assured that the students could ask specific questions on topics such as U.S. society, school equivalency and Embassy programs. (more)
