FEMA Awards Thurston Co. Fire District $225,000

Seattle, WA -- Federal Emergency Management Agency Regional Director John Pennington will present Thurston County Fire Protection District #16 with a $225,000 grant to purchase a firefighting vehicle, Wednesday, June 25, 2003, 6:00 p.m. at their 21249 Bucoda Highway SE (Route 507) Headquarters in Centralia, Washington.

The FEMA Assistance to Fire Fighters Grant Program is designed to increase the effectiveness of fire fighting operations, firefighter health and safety programs, new fire apparatus, EMS programs, and Fire Prevention and Safety Programs.

"Our nation's firefighters are the first responders into almost every emergency," said FEMA Regional Director John Pennington. "Through this award program, President Bush and Congress have provided FEMA the opportunity to significantly enhance the Fire and EMS services they provide to Americans."

"We applied through the FY 2003 FEMA Assistance to Fire Fighters program for funds to purchase a new fire truck," said Thurston County Fire Protection District #16 Fire Chief Tim Weible. "The dual purpose pumper/tender vehicle will greatly enhance our first response capabilities, better protect our constituent communities and enhance firefighter safety."
