Detailed Forecast Discussion |
Updated Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 12:15 p.m.\n*OZONE HIGH POLLUTION ADVISORY IN EFFECT WEDNESDAY MAY 6th *\nHigh pressure in control of the southwestern United States this week will make this the hottest week of the year so far. High temperatures will be in the mid/upper 90s today and in the low 100s for the remainder of the work week. Ozone concentrations will be on the rise this week due to a favorable setup for transport of ozone precursors from southern California and hot temperatures. Ozone concentrations are expected to exceed the federal health standard on Wednesday, especially for the Apache Junction and Queen Valley areas of the county, therefore an ozone High Pollution Advisory (HPA) has been issued for Wednesday May 6th.\nUnfortunately the meteorological setup isnt expected to change on Thursday and an extension of the ozone HPA is possible. Check back on Wednesday for an updated AQI forecast.\nPeople with respiratory and/or heart ailments should limit their outdoor activities during the afternoon and evening hours since thats the timeframe when the ozone concentrations are the highest.\nIn addition, we can all play a part in limiting our pollution activities. Refuel vehicles before sunrise or after sunset, use electric powered lawn equipment, carpool, vanpool or telecommute. Forecaster SD |
