Uncovering America's Heritage... Coin by Coin
2004 Wisconsin Quarter
I'm sure happy to show you Wisconsin's quarter as October's coin.
It has a picture of my cousin on it—a cow!
Cattle have long been important to Wisconsin.
They provide not only beef but dairy products like milk and cheese.
"The Dairy State" and "America's Dairyland" are just two of Wisconsin's nicknames.
The quarter's design also features a wheel of cheese.
The state makes about 40 percent of the nation's cheese and has yet another nickname:
"the cheese state."
The ear of corn in the background stands for Wisconsin's farming industry, which produces many kinds of grains and other crops.
Of course, since Wisconsin's state animal is the badger, Inspector Collector might have presented this coin...but I'm glad it was my turn this month, when the coin is brand new.
Beef, cheese, and corn.
What a tasty quarter!
