Abstract : | Fry-stocking is a major component of the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) restoration effort. Yet methods to maximize survival of fry have not been evaluated. Two major sources of potential variability in survival are developmental stage at stocking and maternal origin (domestic, kelt, sea-run). Results from these experiments will allow managers to fine-tune stocking schedules (developmental stage studies) and to evaluate relative success of programs stocking fry from domestic, kelt, or sea-run mothers. Results will contribute significantly to increasing the effectiveness of the Atlantic salmon restoration effort. |
