Program Description:

The air over the Atlantic Ocean has pollutants that have sometimes traveled long distances. The NARE program measured the type and amount of air pollutants being transported from the North American continent to the Northern Atlantic Ocean. Since the Northeast United States and Nova Scotia, Canada are the last land locations as air masses move out over the ocean, measurements were made a number of land and island sites in Maine, Nova Scotia, and Sable Island. Acadia National Park participated in this study

In addition to the routine continuous ozone and meteorological measurements, highly sensitive analyzers for NO and NOy were operated at Acadia NP during the summer of 1993. Volatile organic compounds (VOC) were collected during days of predicted high ozone. The continuous analyzer data and the VOC data are available to download.
