Detailed Forecast Discussion |
*AN OZONE HEALTH WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR TUESDAY, MAY 5, 2009*\n*AN OZONE HIGH POLLUTION ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR WEDNESDAY, MAY 6, 2009*\n\n High pressure just to the south of Arizona will continue to strengthen this week, leading to well above normal temperatures across the region. Afternoon desert temperatures will be around 102-106F through the weekend with Thursday being the warmest. That's about 10-15 degrees above where we should be for this time of year. The weather pattern has set up with a fairly zonal (west to east) flow across the southern U.S. This means we can expect some weak import of ozone and precursors from the deserts just west of the forecast area, including southern California. High level clouds will push east allowing for maximum potential sunlight on Wednesday. Combined with locally generated ozone, concentrations are expected to exceed the 8-hr health standard on Wednesday, especially in locations north, northeast, and east of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Little change is expected Thursday and Friday. Thus, additional health statements may be issued for those days. For more information on ozone, how it affects your health, and what you can do to limit you exposure as well ozone reduction tips, visit http://www.azdeq.gov. Check back tomorrow for the latest. Until then, have a good day! J.Paul\n |
