Description:
Page two of two from a lab notebook with caption by Maclyn McCarty: "Note-book page marking the reinitiation of research on the pneumococcal transforming substance by MacLeod and Avery in the fall of 1940 after a three year hiatus." The notes are in MacLeod's hand, but the title at the top, 'Exp. 1 (TP)," is by Avery. These experiments were carried out to test the possible effect of fluoride as an inhibitor of inactivation of the transforming substance by autolytic enzymes of the penumococcus.
