United States Mint and Treasury Medals

Medals were produced for the bicentennials of the United States Mint and the United States Treasury Department. Bronze (mixed copper and zinc) replica Mint and Treasury medals are available for sale to the public through the United States Mint's online catalog. Other medals that relate to the Department itself can be grouped into the following three categories.

Secretaries of the Treasury
In this series, a medal is issued for each new Secretary. The series does not represent every individual who held the office, as it began around 1881. The obverse designs are portraits of the Secretary. The reverse designs feature Treasury seals, or emblems, words, or symbols that highlight the Secretary's career. Honorees include:

• Nicholas Brady
• Lloyd Bentsen
• Robert Rubin
• and Lawrence H. Summers

Directors of the United States Mint
In this continuing series, a medal is issued for each new Director, but it too is not a complete record of all those appointed. The obverse bears a portrait of the Director, while the reverse designs include Treasury and Mint buildings and career symbols. Awardees include:

United States Mint Buildings
These medals depict current and historic United States Mint facilities and other historic buildings, including:

• The opening of the new Mint at Philadelphia
• The Denver Mint
• The White House
• The U.S. Bullion Depository at Fort Knox
• The Treasury Building
• The West Point Mint
• The San Francisco Mint
• The San Francisco Mint (1874-1937)
• The New Orleans Mint
