October Monthly Steel Fact Sheet
The preliminary data released today show that overall steel imports in October 2008 increased 0.52 percent from September 2008. The nearly level change in October’s total amount of steel imports was due to a notable increase in imports for stainless blooms, billets, and slabs (71.22%) and carbon & alloy blooms, billets, and slabs (24.86%), offset by declines in several carbon & alloy products. The most significant decreases were in carbon & alloy reinforcing bars (-35.14%), hot rolled sheets
(-30.45%), and plates in coils (-16.79%). October 2008 imports of steel mill products were up 6.85 percent compared to October 2007.
