Phytotechnology Technical and Regulatory Guidance and Decision Trees, Revised (ITRC Phytotechnologies Team)(2009) Newly Posted!
Phytotechnologies use plants to remediate or contain contaminants in soil, ground water, surface water, or sediments.
This document provides guidance for regulators, who evaluate and make informed decisions on phytotechnology work plans,
and for practitioners, who have to evaluate remedial alternatives at a given site. This document is an update to
Phytoremediation Decision Tree (PHYTO-1, 1999) and Phytotechnology Technical and Regulatory Guidance Document (PHYTO-2,
2001) and replaces the previous documents entirely. It merges the concepts of both previous documents and includes new
and practical information on the process and protocol for selecting and applying various phytotechnologies as remedial
alternatives. The technical descriptions of phytotechnologies in this document concentrate on the functioning
mechanisms: phytosequestration, rhizodegradation, phytohydraulics, phytoextraction, phytodegradation, and
phytovolatilization. Decision trees (Remedy Selection, Groundwater, Soil/Sediment, and Riparian Zone) help guide the
user through the application of phytotechnologies to a remediation project.

Optimization Review and Performance Basis — 8209 (2008)
This paper, presented at the Waste Management 2008 Conference, briefly summarizes (1) the overall
benefits of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Remediation Optimization Review process toward
improving remedial effectiveness and efficiency at DOE, (2) the types and objectives of completed
reviews, and (3) how remedial process optimization (RPO) facilitates technology transfer and is
complementary to performance-based environmental management (PBEM).

technologies for treating soil or groundwater contamination or acid rock drainage,
with 3 reports addressing soil cleanup, 4 reports focusing on groundwater and 3 reports
focusing on treating acid rock drainage. This document also includes a table (Appendix A)
identifying the specific sites, technologies, contaminants, media, and year published for
the 393 case studies in the FRTR database.

Abstracts of Remediation Case Studies, Volume 10 (2006)
This report is a collection of abstracts summarizing nine new FRTR cost and
performance case studies documenting the results and lessons learned from site
remediation technology applications. The abstracts are organized by
technology, and cover a variety of in situ treatment technologies and some
containment remedies. The abstracts and corresponding case study reports are
available through the Roundtable Web site, which contains a total of 383
remediation technology case studies. The online version of this document also
includes a table (Appendix A) identifying the specific sites, technologies,
contaminants, media, and year published for the 383 case studies in the FRTR
database.

Abstracts of Remediation Case Studies, Volume 9 (2005)
This new report, published by the Federal Remediation Technologies
Roundtable (FRTR), is a collection of recently published abstracts
summarizing 13 cost and performance case studies on the use of remediation
technologies at contaminated sites. The case studies include several
different technologies for treating soil or groundwater contamination or
both, with 7 reports addressing soil cleanup and 8 reports concerning
groundwater (July 2005, 81 pages). For hard copies, call (800) 490-9198 or

Remediation Technology Assessment Reports: Summary of Selected Documents (2005)
This factsheet, published by the Federal Remediation Technologies Roundtable
(FRTR), identifies and summarizes selected reports prepared by federal and state
agencies to assist project managers in selecting and designing remediation
technologies. Remediation Technology Assessment Reports are based on practical field
experience with either specific technologies (such as permeable reactive barriers) or,
in a few instances, specific contaminants (such as arsenic). As of September 2005,
the website http://costperformance.org/remediation
provides access to 68 of these reports. The new factsheet highlights the Remediation
Technology Assessment Reports that may be among the most useful to project managers.

Workshop on Nanotechnology for Site Remediation (2005)
Members of the Federal Remediation Technologies Roundtable held a workshop on the use of
nanotechnology for site remediation in Washington, D.C., on October 20-21, 2005. The
workshop served as a communication and scientific reporting forum on remediation
research and technologies, as a stimulus for increased collaborations among the various
researchers and government scientists, and as a forum for discussing research needs.
Nanotechnology is research and technology development at the nanometer scale (one
billionth of a meter) to create structures, devices, and systems that have novel
properties and functions. Among the potential applications for nanotechnology are
treatment technologies for environmental pollutants. View/Download
