| Description: | A briefing on business opportunities in the Novgorod Region was held with the Honorable Mikhail Prusak, Governor of the Novgorod Region on February 8, 2002. The city of Novgorod is situated between St. Petersburg and Moscow and domestic and foreign experts working in Russia consider the Novgorod Region to have one of the most favorable investment climates. Major European companies are already present in the region and many opportunities exist for U.S. companies. The main industrial sectors are: chemicals, forestry, wood processing, pulp and paper production, radio-electronics, machine building and metal manufacturing, and production of refractory materials. The sectors that the regional administration perceives as having the strongest potential in the region are: electronic component production (esp. related radio and television production), wood processing, machine building (mostly related to wood processing), and waste management/ recycling.
