NEW FTP SERVER FOR GEOS DATA

The binary earthquake and aftershock data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) General Earthquake Observation System (GEOS) project are available through the new NSMP ftp server "smftp.wr.usgs.gov" and can be accessed through a web browser by typing:  ftp://smftp.wr.usgs.gov/GEOS/ in the address bar or by using command line FTP programs (example). 

The following GEOS data have been added to the NSMP ftp server in 1999:

• IMP - 1979 Imperial Valley, California
• MAM - 1980 and 1983 Mammoth Lakes, California
• IDO - 1983 Borah Peak, Idaho

• CHC - 1985 Chili
• MEX - 1985 Mexico City, Mexico
• PLM - 1986 North Palm Springs, California
• PERU - 1988 Peru
