Geospatial One-Stop

The Geospatial One-Stop (GOS) project is an E-Government initiative, managed by the U.S. Geological Survey that promotes coordination and alignment of geospatial data collection, maintenance, and access among all levels of government. The project works to provide one-stop Web access to our nation's geospatial information through development of a Data Discovery Portal www.geodata.gov. The portal is populated by hundreds of Federal, State, local and Tribal organizations that are the creators and stewards of geographic information system data sets.

Screen capture of the Geospatial One-Stop Web PortalData (metadata) are submitted to the portal by contributing government agencies at all levels (Federal, State, local, and Tribal), companies, academia, nonprofit organizations, and individuals. People looking for data can find it in the portal by performing searches of the portal's catalog or browsing featured data in the data Communities. The records within the portal direct users to the actual data sources. Many of the data sources can be directly downloaded or viewed with the portal's map viewer.

The data partnership Marketplace is a key component of the portal. Participants and users post their planned geospatial data acquisition activities in the Marketplace. This enables identification of opportunities for future data collaboration, and allows organizations to leverage resources, maximize geospatial investments, and reduce redundancies in data acquisition.

The Geospatial One-Stop project, through the geodata.gov portal, and closely working with The Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDD), The National Map program and their many partners:
