Communications & Tracking Workshop

Charleston, West Virginia
The National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) Office of Mine Safety & Health Research (OMSHR) is sponsoring two Communications & Tracking Workshops designed to familiarize attendees with current C&T system technologies and discuss implementation considerations.

These topical areas will directly address issues related to the implementation of systems intended to meet requirements of the MINER Act of 2006. Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) will be participating in the event and will be discussing regulatory and policy considerations relative to the implementation of these systems. The workshops will be identical, although held at different locations.

2009 National Joseph A. Holmes Conference


June 2-4, 2009
The 2009 meeting will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the Hilton during the week of June 2-4, 2009. This meeting will provide a variety of Safety and Health workshops presented by experts from around the U.S. and representing all sectors of mining. The conference is a cooperative effort of the Arkansas Department of Labor, Federal Mine Safety and Health Administration, and mining industries in Arkansas.

The purpose of the conference is to provide a forum for the mining community to focus on mine safety and health concerns.

3rd Annual Conference
for the Mining Industry


June 23-24, 2009
This 2-day conference is part of the 58th annual week-long program offered by the University of Utah School on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies (June 21- 26). The internationally recognized School has 16 different sections, one is a special two-day section for the mining industry. The School has continually expanded its scope to keep pace with increased aware-ness of the health and social problems of alcoholism and other drug dependencies.

The Mine Safety and Health Administration has scheduled a free workshop on Surface Haulage Safety. This workshop is for miners, mining industry, related support groups, mining regulatory agencies, and others that are involved with the planning, design, and use of surface mine haulage equipment and/or systems.

The workshop will include presentations given by experts from the manufacturers of mining equipment and others involved in surface haulage safety.
