Secretary Rumsfeld Remarks after Honor Cordon for President Boris Tadic of Serbia and Montenegro
SEC. RUMSFELD: (inaudible) … need to make a statement.
PRES. TADIC: Sure.
SEC. RUMSFELD: Let me get down lower so I don’t look down on you. I want to look up to a president.
PRES. TADIC: (chuckles)
PRES. TADIC: (inaudible) In English – or –
(inaudible)
PRES. TADIC: Yes, in English. We had a very good conversation and right now we have a lot of programs which are joint programs, defense cooperation programs for example, and programs between National Guard of state of Ohio and our armed forces, and I’m pleased to say that support from the United States and Mr Secretary was very useful for our reforming process in Serbia and Montenegro. And also I have to say that support of Admiral Johnson during the March ethnic violence in Kosovo was very helpful for us. Thank you very much for this meeting, from my point of view it was very successful.
(inaudible)
SEC. RUMSFELD: Yes indeed, we met in Munich –
PRES. TADIC: Yes
SEC. RUMSFELD: -- in February and had a visit there and I was very pleased that the president could join us here at the Pentagon for a visit and have a full schedule here in Washington, D.C. As Minister of Defense, the President made good progress on defense reform in his country and we certainly are anxious to continue our cooperation and to work closely with you and your country. So we’re very pleased you’re here and thank you.
PRES. TADIC: Thank you so much.
SEC. RUMSFELD: Thank you.
