Secretary of Defense William J. Perry announced today that the President has
nominated Maj. Gen. Richard C. Bethurem, United States Air Force, for
appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as commander,
Allied Air Forces Southern Europe and commander, Sixteenth Air Force, United
States Air Forces in Europe, Naples, Italy. Bethurem is currently assigned as
commander, Air Warfare Center, Air Combat Command, Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.
Bethurem was born Jan. 24, 1943, in Green Bay, Wisc.
