Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has nominated Army Lt. Gen. Robert L. Van Antwerp Jr. for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as chief of engineers/commanding general, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Washington, D.C. Van Antwerp is currently serving as the commanding general, U.S. Army Accessions Command/deputy commanding general for Initial military training, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Va.
