Audience: Electronic Technicians hired within the last 3 months
Objectives: Provide the new technician with an introduction to the hardware and software architecture of NWS systems, including interconnecting data flows. Systems introduced are: WSR-88D, ASOS, AWIPS, ART, NWR, CRS. Provide the technician with an overview of the NWS organizational structure including headquarters, regions and the local NWS office. Introduce the technician to the many acronyms used by the NWS. Present a basic overview of Engineering Handbooks, Integrated Logistics Support, EMRS and CLS, NRC and NLSC, and configuration management. Prerequisites: None.
