GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT

Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Maj. Gen. Paul J. Kern, U.S. Army, for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as military deputy director, Army Acquisition Corps, office of the assistant secretary of the Army (Research, Development and Acquisition), Washington, D.C. Since June 1996, he has served as the commanding general, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Hood, Texas.
