Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has nominated:
Lt. Gen. William E. Ward, U.S. Army, for appointment to the grade of general and assignment as deputy commander, U.S. European Command, Germany. Ward is currently serving as the deputy commanding general/chief of staff, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany, with temporary duty as security coordinator for Palestinian Peace Negotiations.
Lt. Gen. Claude V. Christianson, U.S. Army, for reappointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as director for logistics, J-4, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. Christianson is currently serving as the deputy chief of staff, G-4, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C.
Lt. Gen. David H. Petraeus, U.S. Army, for reappointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Petraeus is currently serving as the commander, Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq.
Maj. Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, U.S. Army, for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general, Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq. Dempsey is currently serving as the commanding general, 1st Armored Division, United States Army Europe, and Seventh Army, Germany.
Maj. Gen. William E. Mortensen, U.S. Army, for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Materiel Command, Fort Belvoir, Va. Mortensen is currently serving as the director for logistics, J-4, U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
