Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has nominated Navy Vice Adm. David C. Nichols Jr. for reappointment to the rank of vice admiral and assignment as deputy commander, U.S. Central Command, MacDill AFB, Fla. Nichols is currently serving as commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Central Command and Commander, Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
