General/Flag Officer Announcements

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has nominated:

ARMY

Col. Gale S. Pollock for appointment to the grade of major general and assignment as chief, Army Nurse Corps, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C. Pollock is currently serving as the special assistant to the commanding general, U.S. Army Medical Command/the surgeon general, U.S. Army, Falls Church, Va. In addition to her duties as the chief, Army Nurse Corps, she is pending assignment as commanding general, Pacific Regional Medical Command/Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, HI. In accordance with provisions of Title 10, U.S.C., section 3069(b), an officer selected to serve as the chief, Army Nurse Corps, who holds a regular grade lower than major general, will be appointed to the regular grade of major general.

NAVY

Naval Reserve Rear Adm. William V. Alford, Jr. has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral while serving as battle staff commander, U.S. European Command, Stuttgart, Germany.

Naval Reserve Rear Adm. James E. Beebe has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral while serving as commander, Naval Reserve Readiness Command, Northwest, Everett, Wash.

Naval Reserve Rear Adm. Stephen S. Oswald has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral while serving as mobilization assistant to the director of operations, U.S. Strategic Command, Omaha, Neb.

Naval Reserve Rear Adm. Paul V. Shebalin has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral while serving as chief for plans and policy, Naval Sea Systems Command Operational Support Field, Washington, D.C.
