PROPOSED FOREIGN MILITARY SALE TO THE TAIPEI ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL REPRESENTATIVE OFFICE ANNOUNCED

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States has requested possible purchase of a follow-on phase of the Improved Mobile Subscriber Equipment (IMSE) communication system, to include spare and repair parts, test equipment, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, quality assurance team, U.S. government and contractor technical support and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $513 million.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not affect the basic military balance in the region.

The prime contractor will be General Dynamics Communications Systems of Taunton, Mass. One or more proposed offset agreements may be related to this proposed sale.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.
