PROPOSED FOREIGN MILITARY SALE TO SINGAPORE ANNOUNCED

The government of Singapore has requested a possible sale of 20 M61A1 20mm guns and22 Global Positioning Systems (GPS), spares and repair parts, software development/integration, flight test instrumentation, support equipment, publications and technical documentation, U.S. government and contractor technical and logistics personnel services, and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $81 million.

This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country which has been and continues to be an important force for political stability and economic progress in Southeast Asia.

Singapore plans to use the guns and GPS on their F-16D Block 52 aircraft which are being procured by a direct commercial sales. Singapore will use these support services for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of all their F-16 aircraft. Singapore will have no difficulty absorbing these guns and systems into their armed forces.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not affect the basic military balance in the region.

The prime contractor will be Lockheed Aeronautics Corp. of Fort Worth, Texas. There are no offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.

Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. government or contractor representatives to Singapore.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale
