GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has nominated Army Lt. Gen. John P. Abizaid for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as director, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. Abizaid is currently serving as the director for strategic plans and policy, J-5, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.
