On Nov. 4, 1996 the Secretary of Defense directed the Joint
Staff to perform a review and assessment of the two launches of
AGM-88C High Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles in the Central Command
area of operations.
Further analysis of the Nov. 2 and 4 missile launches by
U.S. aircraft over Iraq has confirmed that both F-16CJ aircraft
encountered threat radar emitters.
The assessment team also found the performance of the pilots
to be highly professional and that they operated properly under
the Rules of Engagement.
The Operation Southern Watch mission continues as directed,
including normal sorties through the no-fly zone.
