NAVY NAMES ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD WINNERS

Fifty-three winners and two honorable mentions have been selected in the fiscal 2000 Environmental and Natural Resources Awards competition, sponsored by the Chief of Naval Operations' (CNO) Environmental Protection, Safety and Occupational Health Division. The awards will be presented in a 9 a.m. EDT ceremony on Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The CNO annually confers environmental quality awards on Navy personnel, ships, and shore activities in recognition of outstanding performance in protecting and enhancing the quality of the environment. Competition categories include Natural Resources Conservation, Cultural Resources Management, Environmental Quality, Pollution Prevention, Recycling, and Environmental Restoration.

The wide range of recipients includes: individuals or teams (presented to individuals or teams who have made significant and lasting contributions); large installations (more than 10,000 acres); small installations (10,000 acres or less); large ships (crew size greater than 400); small ships (crew size of 400 or less); industrial installations (primary mission of producing, maintaining or rehabilitating military materiel) and non-industrial installations (primary mission not of producing, maintaining or rehabilitating military materiel).
