U.S. SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCES PARTICIPATE IN MULTINATIONAL PEACEKEEPING EXERCISE

The Department of Defense announced today that U.S. special operations forces assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, N.C., and Special Operations Command South, Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, will participate in "Cabanas 2000" a joint multinational peacekeeping exercise in Cordoba, Argentina, from Sept. 6 through 21, 2000.

Cabanas 2000, sponsored by the headquarters, United States Southern Command, Miami, Fla., and hosted by Argentina will involve about 300 U.S. personnel. More than 700 additional personnel from the host nation, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay will also participate.

The exercise focuses on a variety of U.N. peacekeeping tasks to include: identifying and marking mines, tactical troop movements, food distribution, and civil-military, security, and police operations.
