GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT

Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the president has nominated Army Maj. Gen. Kevin P. Byrnes for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as assistant vice chief of staff, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C. Byrnes is currently serving as commanding general, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
