Secretary of Defense William J. Perry announced today that
he has approved the appointment of Gen. Billy J. Boles, United
States Air Force, on the retired list in the grade of general
effective April 1, 1997. Boles a native of King, N.C, currently
serves as commander, Air Education and Training Command, Randolph
Air Force Base, Texas
Named to succeed Boles is Lt. Gen. Lloyd W. Newton,
currently assigned as assistant vice chief of staff, United
States Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Secretary Perry
also announced today that the President has nominated Newton, a
native of Ridgeland, S.C., for appointment to the grade of
general.
