MAYBERRY NAMED DEPUTY UNDER SECRETARY OF DEFENSE FOR READINESS

The Department of Defense announced today that Paul W. Mayberry has been selected as the deputy under secretary of Defense for Readiness.

Mayberry will serve as the deputy to the under secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness as the focal point on all issues and activities related to readiness of U.S. armed forces. He will develop and oversee policies and programs to ensure the readiness of U.S. forces for peacetime contingencies, crises, and war fighting. In addition, he will serve as executive secretary to the Department of Defense Senior Readiness Oversight Council.

Previously, Mayberry served in several key executive roles throughout the Department of Defense. Most recently, he was the executive director for the secretary of Defense's review of military morale and quality of life. He also served as the special assistant to the under secretary of the Army contributing to the development and implementation of the Army's transformation vision and strategy. Mayberry was the director of manpower and training in the department of the Navy overseeing the policies and programs for the Navy and Marine Corps recruiting efforts. Prior to these assignments, Mayberry had a distinguished career with the Center for Naval Analyses in which his research efforts focused on force readiness issues. He also completed two field tours as an operations analyst with the Naval and Marine forces in the Pacific Fleet.

Mayberry holds a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and both a master's degree and doctorate in quantitative psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
