Two Disaster Recovery Centers Closing In Galveston County

AUSTIN, Texas -- Two FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Centers in Galveston County are scheduled to close soon, but another facility will remain open in the City of Galveston.
The recovery center in Texas City, which was originally opened on Nov. 17, will close on Feb. 26. The center in Bacliff, which opened on Nov. 24, is scheduled to close on March 9.
"Over the past several months, these disaster centers have provided face-to-face assistance to thousands of residents affected by Hurricane Ike. FEMA's role remains the same; to continue to serve Texans and to help them recover and restore their lives," said Federal Coordinating Officer Brad Harris.
The Texas City recovery center, located at the former J.C. Penney store at the Mall of the Mainland, 10000 Emmett F. Lowery Express, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until its closing. The Bacliff recovery center, at 1401 Grand Avenue (FM 646), will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until it closes on March 9.
A disaster recovery center is also located at 4700 Broadway in Galveston, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
"We urge area residents to visit the two centers before their closing to check on the progress of their applications, or if they have any other concerns," said State Coordinating Officer Joan Haun.
Residents also can follow up on their applications by going online to www.fema.gov, or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- and hearing-impaired.
