Funding For Debris Removal Is A High Priority

AUSTIN, Texas -- Hurricane Ike's tremendous winds and strong storm surge left a path of destruction across southeast Texas, creating millions of cubic yards of debris. Debris removal is a priority of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as Texas recovers from the disastrous affects of the hurricane.

FEMA does not remove debris. Rather, it reimburses for the cost of debris removal in eligible areas in declared counties to eliminate an immediate threat to lives, public health and safety; to ensure the economic recovery of affected communities; and to mitigate the risk to life and property.
