AUSTIN, Texas -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will host a Pre-Proposal Industry Day in Houston on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, to present information on upcoming contracts for the maintenance and eventual removal of manufactured homes installed in Texas as a result of Hurricane Ike. Additional contract opportunities for technical assistance on hazard mitigation issues that might arise will also be discussed.

Key personnel from FEMA's Individual Assistance and Hazard Mitigation program areas, as well as other government personnel, will be on hand to explain aspects of these opportunities regarding temporary housing units, and to answer questions.

Additionally, in order to support and further foster successful business participation in the recovery effort, an educational seminar on how to prepare contracts and bids for federal opportunities will be conducted.

The Industry Day event is free and open to all interested businesses, although local businesses in the disaster areas are especially encouraged to attend, given that contracts will be awarded for work throughout the region. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Houston Community College Auditorium, 3100 Main St., Houston. Those planning to attend should send an e-mail to sbdcptac@uh.edu with their name and the number of people attending.

FEMA translators of Vietnamese, Spanish and Korean will be present throughout the day to assist attendees who may want to ask questions in those languages.

Throughout the contract acquisition process, FEMA will be posting updates to upcoming acquisitions, including questions and answers, on www.FedBizOpps.gov. For a complete list of resources on how to do business with FEMA, visit www.fema.gov/business/contractor.shtm
