Three Harris County Disaster Recovery Centers to Close: FEMA Just A Call Away

AUSTIN, Texas -- As three FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Centers in Harris County prepare to close, disaster recovery officials remind everyone that FEMA is always just a phone call or mouse click away.

All three centers are scheduled to complete operations at close of business, Tuesday, Nov. 25. Until then, the centers remain open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed on Sundays. The centers are located at:

"Texans need to know that disaster help is still available even when a center closes or moves to another location," said State Coordinating Officer Joan Haun. "Follow up on applications or ask questions by calling the FEMA toll-free number or visiting the Web site."

The FEMA Web site is www.fema.gov. The teleregistration number is 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- and hearing-impaired. Both numbers are available for use 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until further notice.

"Disaster recovery is a fluid process," said Federal Coordinating Officer Stephen DeBlasio. "We urge applicants to follow through with their recovery process and keep their contact information up to date." he said.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
