Fire Prevention Week Celebration At Norwich Fire Station

Boston, MA -- Fire safety and prevention is everyone's concern. October 6 - 12, 2002 is Fire Prevention Week. Effective fire safety depends on teamwork.

WHO: Norwich Fire Chief James Walsh, Mayor Arthur L. Lathrop, Richard Podurgiel, Norwich Town Manager, Peter Nytstrom, State representative and Daniel A. Craig, Regional Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will be joined by representatives from Congressmen Simmons office. Members of the fire company and community organizations will also be present for the event.
WHAT: The Norwich Fire Department was awarded a fire assistance grant of $117,000.00 from the FEMA and the United States Fire Administration (USFA) for the purchase of equipment. The Assistance to Firefighters grant program is designed to improve the safety and health of the nation's fire service and the communities they serve.
