WINDSOR, Conn. -- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) serving Norwalk and Danbury will close on Thursday, July 26, at 6 p.m. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will operate a Disaster Loan Outreach Center in the Danbury location to help Fairfield County residents complete SBA loan applications.

"More than 300 Fairfield County residents with April 15 storm-related losses received valuable help in these two disaster recovery centers during the past month," said Governor M. Jodi Rell, "We are pleased with the work that has been done and we are equally pleased that the Small Business Administration will continue to provide loan application assistance in Fairfield County."

During the past month, DRCs throughout Connecticut helped more than 800 visitors learn about programs that may help them in their recovery from storm-related losses. Representatives from local, state and federal agencies staffed the recovery centers. Although disaster recovery centers are curtailing activities, residents of Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London and Windham counties can still register for FEMA or SBA assistance.

"We're nearing the finish line with nearly all requests for disaster assistance in hand," said Federal Coordinating Officer Mike Parker. "We urge Connecticut homeowners, renters and business owners with losses from the April nor-easter to call FEMA now if they have not already registered for help."

The deadline for Connecticut residents to register for FEMA assistance or an SBA loan to repair property damage is August 13. Registration is available on www.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Hearing- and speech-impaired residents may call TTY 1-800-462-7585. Operators are available at both numbers between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. seven days a week.

Anyone with questions about the SBA application may talk face-to-face with specialists in Disaster Loan Outreach Centers. Assistance is also available through the SBA's toll free help line 1-800-659-2955 or online www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance.
