WINDSOR, Conn. -- The disaster recovery center serving Simsbury will close on Friday, July 13 at 6 p.m. The recovery center provides a location where individuals affected by the mid-April storms in Connecticut can talk face-to-face with disaster recovery specialists.
Recovery centers are operated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Representatives from local, state and federal agencies staff the recovery centers as well as U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
“The closing of the Simsbury center does not mean FEMA is leaving Connecticut,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Mike Parker. “Residents who need to talk in person with FEMA disaster recovery specialists or a representative of the SBA can do so at the three disaster recovery centers that remain open or call 1-800-621-FEMA or visit www.fema.gov. We’re eager to help you.”
On Monday, SBA will open a disaster loan outreach center in the same facility to help applicants with the SBA disaster loan process. This center will operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until further notice.
Connecticut counties where individual assistance is available are:
Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London and Windham.
“Connecticut residents are receiving very good service at all of the disaster recovery centers in our state,” said Governor M. Jodi Rell. “Anyone with property damage from the April storm who has not yet registered with FEMA should call immediately and get the ball rolling. The deadline to register is only a month away.”
Hearing- and speech-impaired residents may call TTY 1-800-462-7585. Operators are available at both numbers between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. seven days a week. For questions about SBA disaster loans, visit the workshop, call the SBA Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955 or visit online www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance.
