Kansas City, KS -- State and Federal officials have amended the original Presidential Disaster Declaration of May 6, 2003 to include categories C through G under the Public Assistance Program for the following Kansas counties already determined adversely affected by the tornadoes that began May 4, 2003:

Cherokee, Crawford, Labette, Neosho and Wyandotte

Categories C through G include roads and bridges; water control facilities; buildings and equipment; utilities; parks, recreational facilities and other items.

"Our review of additional information indicated enough significant damage to amend the original disaster declaration which makes these counties eligible for additional federal help," said Federal Coordinating Officer Mike Hall.

Individuals who have been affected by the disaster are urged to start the application process by calling FEMA's toll-free number at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Hearing and speech impaired individuals may call TTY at 1-800-462-7585.
