More Disaster Assistance Service Centers Serving Flood Victims

ALBANY, N.Y. -- To better serve flood victims, Mobile Disaster Assistance Service Centers are currently open and more are being deployed to flood-affected counties throughout New York State. Federal and State officials are pleased to offer these disaster-recovery information centers on wheels as a convenient way for flood victims to meet face-to-face with recovery experts and register for disaster aid using the phones or computers on site at these units.

Mobile Disaster Assistance Service Centers now open are located in Broome County at the Susquehanna Valley High School, 1040 Conklin Road, in Conklin and a supporting unit to the fixed site in Delaware County at the Walton High School in Walton. Hours of operations are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., daily until further notice.

Two additional mobile units will open this weekend.  One will open at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Delaware County at the Sidney Civic Center, 21 Liberty Street in Sidney.  The other, in Broome County, will open at 1 p.m. Sunday, in the Endwell Fire Station on Country Club Road, Endwell, in the Town of Union.

"We're doing everything possible to bring to New Yorkers the full array of federal, state and local programs," said John R. Gibb, Director of the State Emergency Management Office and state coordinating officer.

"These mobile units, complete with phone lines, mean we can get to communities quickly," said Marianne C. Jackson, federal coordinating officer. "Computers will also be accessible for those who want to register online."

New York State and FEMA staff will be available to supply disaster information along with representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Fixed-site Disaster Assistance Service Centers continue in operation daily from 8 a.m.  to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

Broome County: Binghamton High School, 31 Main Street, Binghamton, NY

Chenango County: Bainbridge Town Hall, 15 North Main Street, Bainbridge, NY

Delaware County: Walton High School, 47-49 Stockton Avenue, Walton, NY

Herkimer County: Herkimer BOCES, 352 Gros Blvd., Herkimer, NY

Montgomery County: Fonda-Fultonville CSD Middle School, 112 Old Johnstown Road, Fonda, NY

Otsego County: SUNY Campus, Lee Hall, Ravena Parkway, Oneonta, NY

Sullivan County: Livingston Manor Middle School, 19 School Street, Livingston, NY

Tioga County: Owego-Apalachin CSD Middle School, 3 Sheldon Guile Boulevard, Owego, NY

If you haven't registered for assistance, you can call Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Individuals with hearing or speech impairments should call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. The lines are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., daily. You can also register online at www.fema.gov.

You can also register for New York's State Individual and Family Grant Program by calling 1-888-7-NYS-AID (1-888-769-7243) or (TTY) NYS Relay 711or register online at www.labor.state.ny.us. The State lines are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
