Instruction
Summary: The respiratory system carries oxygen to the lungs to aerate the blood, expels poisonous gases from the lungs, and helps equalize body moisture and temperature. This apparatus consists of the nose, larynx, trachea, two bronchi, and two lungs. Throughout the film, a male model, either nude to the waist or wearing an undershirt, is used to demonstrate, with graphics superimposed on his image, the structure of the respiratory apparatus, the flow of oxygen and waste in and out of the body, and the external appearance of the body during inspiration and expiration. The mechanism of the vocal cords is shown. Fresh air and sunshine are recommended for the health of the respiratory system. Shots also include: a post-mortem open throrax with gloved hands showing the lobes of the lungs, lifting the lungs aside to show the heart, indicating the diaphram. An animated graphic illustrates the movement of oxygen, blood, and waste products in the respiratory and circulatory systems. The urinary system is also included on this film. The organs of the urinary system are: two kidneys, two ureters, one bladder, and one urethra. The kidneys filter waste from the blood which then passes out of the body in the urine. Rubber-gloved hands exhibit a post-mortem urinary tract. Suprarenals, which furnish the adrenalin to maintain normal blood pressure, are pointed out on top of each kidney. A male model with a graphic superimposed on his image is used to trace the urine from the kidneys to the urethra. The viewer is warned against damaging the kidneys through the use of alcohol and encouraged to drink pure water to flush the system.
