Pentagon Metro Entrance Facility Gets LEED Certification

Pentagon Renovation Program manager Michael R. Sullivan will accept certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for the Pentagon Metro Entrance Facility at 1:00 p.m. EST Wednesday, Nov. 5.  The ceremony will take place on the northeast end of the upper bus platform at the Pentagon Metro Entrance.

The LEED Green Building Rating System™ is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings.  The Pentagon Metro Entrance Facility, completed in November 2002, is the first Department of Defense facility in the National Capitol Region to receive LEED certification.  The Pentagon Metro Entrance Facility provides a link for more than 35,000 people arriving everyday by public transportation to the Pentagon.

James E. Hartzfeld, chairman of the U.S. Green Building Council and vice president of Sustainable Strategy for Interface Americas Inc., will present the certification to the Pentagon.  Representatives from other partner organizations attending the event include Arlington County, HDR Architecture, Hensel Phelps Construction Co., Johnson Controls Inc., MC Dean, Real Estate & Facilities, Sebesta Blomberg, Southland Industries, Washington Headquarters Services, and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

The event is open to the media.  The point of contact for access is George Jackson, (703) 614-1771, or jacksong@army.pentagon.mil .
